Eyelid Surgery – Blepharoplasty in Tampa Florida
What is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?
Blepharoplasty is a procedure performed on the eyelids to remove excess skin and fat from around the eyes. This may be to provide a rejuvenated, youthful appearance or to correct a visual obstruction. Signs of aging such as crow’s feet, puffy eyes, and baggy eyes can be corrected. Eyelid surgery may be preformed on the upper and lower eyelids, and may be combined with other procedures, such as brow and forehead lifts, and face lifts.
How is the surgery performed?
Eyelid surgery may be performed under general anesthesia or under sedation. An incision is made in the crease of the upper eyelid to remove extra skin and fat. In the lower lid, the incision may be made in the skin just under the eyelashes, or inside the eyelid depending on the extent of the procedure. Fine sutures will be removed 4-6 days after surgery.
What is the recovery time?
Swelling and bruising will be present for up to 10 days after surgery. Contacts may not be worn until swelling subsides. Ointment and drops will be used to keep your eyes moist, and keeping your head elevated on pillows will help the swelling subside more quickly. You will need someone to stay with you for the first few days, and physical activity is kept to a minimum. You may return to work in 7-10 days once swelling has subsided.
