Cheek Lift Surgery in Tampa Florida

What is a cheek lift (Mid-Face Lift)?

A Midface Lift, as its name implies, rejuvenates the central and periorbital region of the face. An area which is not adequately dealt with by a traditional facelift. The classic facelift rejuvenates the lower face and neck by eliminating the jowls and by restoring the youthful well defined neck line. The Midface Lift compliments the traditional facelift by reversing the aging changes around the central portion of the face. Finally, a forehead lift (or brow lift) corrects the downward drift of our brows which contributes to “hooding “ and the “tired” look. In addition to lifting your brows and framing your eyes properly, a forehead lift can lower your hairline and eliminate forehead and frown lines. These procedures when carefully chosen and executed can restore a more youthful, rested appearance to your face without producing an unnatural result.

How is the surgery performed?

One of the first signs of the aging process occurs around our eyes. The skin becomes loose and redundant, fat bulges appear and a clear line of demarcation shows between our lower eyelid skin and our cheek skin. A lower lid blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) usually removes the redundant skin and the bulging fat but fails to address this line of demarcation (the tear trough). Furthermore, the youthful eyelid is smooth, full, and lacks this line of demarcation. The Midface Lift attempts to address these issues by elevating the entire soft tissue envelope over your cheek and resuspending it higher, where it used to be. Little if any fat is removed, and by repositioning the entire cheek higher, more lower eyelid skin can be removed thus blunting the tear trough. A fuller, more youthful lower lid is created which blends smoothly with the cheek skin.

A Midface Lift is usually performed together with an upper lid blepharoplasty and/or a full face lift. It is performed in a hospital, under general anesthesia, lasting approximately three hours. It is usually an outpatient procedure.

What does the recovery involve?

The incision is placed immediately under the eyelashes and the sutures are removed within 5-7 days. Post-operative discomfort is minimal. Swelling may last from 2 to 4 weeks or longer in rare cases. Most patients resume normal activities including exercise within 4 weeks of surgery. As with all cosmetic surgery, final results take 3-6 months to fully achieve. The scars are usually imperceptible. The results last forever but we do not stop the aging process. In the hands of a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon the midface lift is a safe procedure which adds another dimension to our techniques for rejuvenating the face.
