Breast Lift Surgery in Tampa Florida
What is a mastopexy?
A mastopexy (breast lift) is a procedure designed to restore the breast to a more youthful appearance. The nipple and breast tissue are repositioned and re-shaped to create a more youthful appearance. This procedure may be combined with a breast augmentation depending upon your goals.
Who is a good candidate for a Mastopexy?
Ideal candidates for breast lift procedures are women who have had children or have lost weight and have too much skin around the breast tissue, allowing the breast to sag and lose it’s youthful shape. If a large amount of breast tissue needs to be removed (if your breasts are too large) this is considered a breast reduction. The two procedures are very similar.
How is the surgery performed?
General anesthesia is used for the procedure. The excess skin is removed from the saggy breast and a new bra of skin is designed. That raises the nipple and reshapes the breast. Scars may be located around the areola, under the breast in the fold, and in a vertical line down from the nipple to the fold. Drains may be necessary for a few days. If used, the drains are easily and painlessly removed in the office.
How long is the recovery time?
Activity is restricted for the first 4 weeks after surgery, and during this time you will have swelling and may have minor bruising. Most patients are able to return to work in 7-10 days with activity restrictions. A surgical bra is frequently used after surgery for extra support during the healing phase.
